FAQ

Questions before the ceremony or signing?

Here are straightforward answers to the things couples and notary clients ask most often.

Can a Tennessee notary perform a wedding?

Tennessee law includes notaries public among the people authorized to solemnize marriages. The couple still needs a valid Tennessee marriage license for a ceremony performed in Tennessee.

Can we get married the same day we get our license?

Tennessee does not generally impose a waiting period in the way some states do, but application procedures, office hours and documentation requirements are controlled by the county clerk. Confirm with the issuing clerk before planning a same-day ceremony.

Do we need witnesses?

Witness practices can vary by form and local procedure. Follow the instructions on the marriage license and the issuing county clerk’s current guidance.

Do you perform very short ceremonies?

Yes. Let us know you want a quick ceremony and the wording can be kept simple.

Can you come to a cabin or rental property?

Often, yes, with the property owner or host’s permission. Share the exact address when requesting availability.

Can you help write vows?

We can help organize the ceremony and discuss wording options. If you are writing personal vows, they can be as short or as detailed as you want.

What ID do I need for a notary appointment?

The notary must be able to satisfactorily identify the signer under Tennessee requirements. Tell us what identification you have when you request the appointment if you are unsure.

Can you notarize a document if the signer is not there?

No. The signer must personally appear before the notary for an in-person notarization.

Can you tell me which form I need?

No. Choosing or preparing legal documents can be legal advice. If you do not know which legal document or certificate is needed, ask the receiving agency or a qualified attorney.

How far do you travel?

Knoxville and surrounding East Tennessee communities are the primary service area. Longer-distance requests can be considered based on the date, time and location.
